Foods That Are Beneficial For Your Oral Health

Strong Tooth With Healthy Foods

When we hear experts talk about food in relation to oral health, the focus always seems to be on ‘what we shouldn’t eat’ and ‘what causes cavities.’ There is very little comment made on what foods to indulge in and what you can eat to reinforce your oral health. Even if you’re unaware of it, there are foods out there that can help to bolster your overall oral health, and we’re going to tell you about a few of them below! We believe that food is a great pleasure of life, and these foods ensure that you can indulge without damaging your teeth!

Almond

Aside from providing protein and calcium, almonds are also delicious and very low in sugar. Just a quarter-cup of almonds can help your lunch be more filling, and add pizazz to salads and stir-fries.

Carrots

Their bright orange flavor, slightly sweet taste, and satisfying crunch are all things that make carrots a great snack food. They also help to boost saliva production, which battles cavity producing bacteria and acids. These delicious snacks also happen to be high in Vitamin A and fiber, making them a great addition to your snack routine.

Celery

Celery is nature’s toothbrush, with all those fibers doing a great job of cleaning away plaque and tartar between brushings. They go great with peanut butter and cream cheese and are packed with Vitamin A and C.

Apples

While the saying may be “An apple a day keeps the doctor away,” an apple a day can also help protect your teeth against plaque and tartar. When you bite into a fresh, crisp apple, the skin and rough flesh scour your teeth of debris. They’re packed with water and fiber and causes the body to produce additional saliva. If you’re looking for a snack that doubles as a mid-day brushing, apple slices are a good way to go.

Leafy Greens

Greens are a valuable addition to your daily meal for multiple reasons. It’s the calcium and Vitamin B that are important where your teeth are concerned. The latter has been shown to battle gum disease in pregnant women, while the former helps to build strong bones and teeth in everyone. Spinach is a great addition to any salad, and also goes well on pizza and in smoothies.

Yogurt

Yogurt is a delightful low-acid treat that comes in a wide variety of flavors. It tends to be low in sugar while being packed in the calcium and protein you need to grow healthy teeth. The good bacteria in yogurt have been shown to battle bad bacteria by crowding it out in your mouth.
